Abstract:Objective ToSobserveStheSeffectSof Chinese herbal immersion in prevention and treatment of hand-foot syndrome caused by apatinib. Methods From Jan 2016 to Dec 2017, 157 patients with esophageal carcinoma and intestinal carcinoma treated with apatinib were randomly divided into Chinese medicine group (n=72), in which their hands and feet were immersed in Chinese herbal liquid twice a day; and control group (n=85), in which their hands and feet were immersed in warm water twice a day. Then we compared the incidence and severity of hand-foot syndrome between the groups. Results Among all the patients the incidence of I, II and III degree hand-foot syndrome were 12.7%, 10.2% and 6.4%, respectively. The rates of I, II, III degree hand-foot syndrome in Chinese medicine group and control group were 8.3%, 6.9%, 4.2% and 16.5%, 11.0%, 10.1%, respectively, and the rate in control group was higher than that in Chinese medicine group(P=0.015). Conclusion Chinese herbal immersion could reduce the incidence and severity of hand-foot syndrome for cancer patients treated with apatinib, which was valuable to be applied in clinics.
