Abstract:Objective To explore the influence of auricular point pressing with bean on insomnia in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Method All patients with COVID-19 suffering from insomnia who were coming from the South-first-district and general-five-district inpatient wards of Jin Yintan hospital, Wu Han from February to March, 2020. Sixty-two patients were included in the study. Based on the conventional treatment, using auricular point pressing with bean in experimental group, while only using conventional treatment in control group. The auricular acupoints in one ear were selected with heart, shenmen, sympathetic, neurasthenia, upper lung, lower lung, and anti-asthma etc., twice a week for 14 days. The general information questionnaire was used to evaluate the general condition of the patients before the intervention. The insomnia severity index (ISI), self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Kolcaba Comfort Scale were used to evaluate the severity of insomnia, depression, anxiety and comfort status before and after the intervention. Results In general data of patients, there was a statistically significant difference on oxygen therapy between groups (χ2= 12.579, P = 0.000). Before and after the intervention, there was a significant difference on the total score of insomnia severity index between the two groups (Z=-3.662, P=0.000). According to the stratified analysis of oxygen therapy, the total score of ISI between the two groups before and after the intervention was statistically different(t=3.877,P=0.000). Through intra group comparison, there was a significant difference in experimental group on the total score of ISI(Z= -4.247, P = 0.000) . There was no significant difference in the scores of SDS, SAS and Kolcaba Comfort scale between the two groups before and after the intervention (P > 0.05); there was a significant difference in experimental group of anxiety scale before and after the intervention (z = -2.673, P = 0.008). Conclusion Auricular acupoint compression can effectively improve the symptoms of insomnia in covid-19 patients, and improve the anxiety caused by insomnia in covid-19 patients. Auricular acupoint compression technique is worth promoting and applying.
